Shaw were transacting bus iness in Dallas Wednesday. The dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Howell and family Sun day were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Burch, Herschel hog nage Evelyn Bass, Opal and Onita Wizard. Misses Mary Lou Graves and Mae Phillips, teachers of Kelley school, dismissed school Thurs day afternoon. They will take up work again Monday, Jan. 2. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Howell and daughter, Oleta, were visitors Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Craghead were shopping in McKinney Fri day. Miss Evalyn Bass of Année spent Sunday night and Monday with Opal Gattis. Mr. and Mrs. John Stice of Kaufman spent the week-end ch Mr. and Mrs. Steve Jones and family. Miss Callie B. Burch spent Sunday night with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Burch. Those who spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. R. Thornton and family Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Walker Thornton and family, Brr. and Mrs. John Thornton and fam ily; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Thornton and family of Amarillo; Mr. and Mrs. Tuck Teaver and family of Gunter, Mr. and Mrs. Edd Smith and daughters, Jewel and Oma and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Thornton and son Bobbie. Deck Helms of Weston passed away Sunday morning, Dec. . 18, after a siege of illness. He was the father of Mrs. C. W. Willard of this community. Funeral serv ices were conducted by Rev. Mor gan, Methodist at Weston, at Cottage Hill. Burial was in Cottage Hill cemetery. County Tax Collector N. D. Ready, with his corps of assist ants, went to work day in the courthouse after being duly sworn into office. Mr. Ready, who thus had several years’ experience as deputy in the office, had things “humming” in a few minutes. Mr. Ready’s assistants were also sworn in as follows: A. T. Raper, chief deputy; J. BR. Hallo way Jr. of Fa , and Miss Archie Thompson of McKinney, regular deputies. Other helpers in the office, whom this editor met in his rounds, were W. A. Pace of West minster, Fred Greenwood of Prosper, Mrs. Faye Snider and W. D. Smith Jr. both of Mc- Kinney. These well-trained, efficient, hard-working officials should ren der a successful two years’ serv ice in this important county of fice. We wish them much luck, J. Maston Day came in from Sudan, West Texas, to spend the holdays with his family in Mc Kinney. He is manager of the large W. B. Newtome landhold ings in Lamb ad Bailey coun ties. He states that they have had lots of rain and snow at there and that roads are very wet and slippery to travel over. His son, Newsome Gay, . com mercial artist of Chicago, is also here spending his holiday vaca tion with homefolks. Newsome is a graduate of the McKinney high school, whose natural talent as an artist is being developed under the ablest of teachers and prac tical training in our nation’s sec ond largest city.
