Over Fifteen Hundred People Witnessed the Morning’s Sport -Hot Contests~ The Results About fifteen hundred people e s sembled on Rosser Ave. from Sixth St east Monday morning to see the annual dog races Tae weather was cool, about ten below to arc, but the sun was shining—it was a real Mani toba day and the spectators thor oughly enjoyed themepe lives. The morning’s program opened at enortly after ten o’clock, with Maj ors. D. Broadfoot and David Simpson conducting the proceedings, the form er as judicre and the latter as general master of ceremonies. The other ca reers were; Wm. Nelly, starter; W Troughton, assistant starter; Jack Frobt, clerk of course. The course was from Third street to Sixth street on Rosser, and both sides of the avenue, the full length of the course was lined with spectators, among whom were a large number of ladies. The races were as carefully con ducted as if it were a program of speeding events under America Trotting Associatcon rules. The driv ers even wore upon their “row num bers the same as those worn by the horse pilots a t a race meeting. The program consisted of three races, as follows :— Team race—3 entries. Free-for-all—14 entries Conpolation—12 entries. All races were run in heats, best 2 in 3, and no fouling or crooked work wos allowed. Much difficulty was perieneed by the starter in getting dogs away in each heat. Nearly every time the attempt was mitts to at the came away, some of the igs got mixed up in a fight and on several occasions great trouble was experienced stopping the trouble and acting the dogs away on aren ane. Several times Mr. Simpson or ack Frost, both of whom appeared to have some influence over that oxs, had to be called in before a start could be made. Every heat was won in a ‘drivier finish and in nearly every case, the winner’s margin was a very small cme. The races resulted as follows :— TEAM RACE. CONSOLATION. 1st Heat 2nd Heat Prizs LB.
