The C. Sc X.-W. Ky. started the newcenturv in bad luck. New Year's morn*ilig an accident happened at Harrington which resulted in the instant death ofFireman John Scott and injury of Engineer John Hell. As the firt suburbantrain was starting out on her regularrun at 5:2o a. 111., in the darkness theerew did not notice that the turn tablewas set wrong, so the engine ran offthe open switch into the pit. The frontend caught on the turn table and theengine .and tender shut together like ajaekknife, pinioning both men. Engineer Thorp and others by vigorous use of the ax cut the cab away and releasedEngineer Bell. w ho. though terribly injured. did not lose consciousness; butthe fireman could not be got out till thewrecker arrived and lifted the tender!off bis bodv. Scott's funeral was heldFriday; interment at (J ray’s Lake. Thedoctors say Bell will live.
