tI-‘DEMOCRATIC MEETING.At a meeting of the friend* of the present national administration, held at the Court house in Rockville, County of Parke, Indiana, on Saturday, the 29th day of December, 1838, for the purpoee of appoint!ng delegates to represent the said County of Parke in the general convention to be held at Lafayette, for the purpose of nominating a Democratic Candidate to represent the Seventh Congressional District in the next Congress of the United States,The meeting was called to order by Matthew Noel, Esq., and was thereupon organised by the unanimous appointment of Gen. Gcokgb K. Steele as President, and James McGinnis and William Huxford as Vice Presidents, and Levi Sidwell and Erabtcs M. Benson as Secretaries.Whereupon the President briefly stated the objects of the meeting.On motion of John G. Davis, Esq., the following resolutions were unanimously adopted, to wit:1. Resolved, That we approve of the policy of bolding a democratic convention at Lafayette on the @th day of January next, to nominate a suitable candidate to represent thi» (7th) congressional district in the next congress of the United States.2. John J, Meach-am, Resolved, That the blank in the 2nd resolution be filled with the number “forty-two.*’On motion of Matthew Noel, Esq , Resolved, That the blank in the 3rd resolution be filled with the number “five.”Whereupon the President appointed the following committee in pursuance of the 3rd resolution, to wit: John G. Davis, Matthew Noel, John Sunderland, Esquires, Gen. Arthur Patterson, and Col. Samuel H. Johnson. And thereupon the said committee reported to the meeting the following delegates to represent the said county of Parke, in the said proposed convention, to wit :Gen. George K. Steele, Col. Samuel H. Gabriel Houghman, Robert N. Allen, Ebastus M. Benson, and William M. Ginnis, of Adams township.Which report, on motion of Austin M. Puett,Esq., was unanimously adopted.On motion of John G. Davis, Esq., Resolved, That the proceedings of this meeting be drawn up by the Secretaries, eigned by the President and Vice President, countersigned by the Secretaries, and a copy thereof furnished the editor of the Crawfordsville Record and other Democratic editors in the 7th congressional district for publication.On motion, Resolved, that the thanks of thii meeting be tendered to the President, Vice Presidents, and Secretaries, for the faithful and dignified manner in which they have discharged their several duties upon the present occasion.On motion of A.
