Funeral services for Floyd Arthur Bowen, 60, prominent Chinook man, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Floyd Bowen Gymnasium at Chinook with the Rev. Leon Johnson of ficiating. Interment will be in Chinook Cemetery, Bowen, in whose honor the gym was dedicated in 1963, died unexpectedly Tuesday in a Havre hospital. He was a civic leader, served as secretary of the Blaine County Fair 29 years and taught at Chi nook High School since 1928. A member of the fair board and an active teacher at the time he also served as a city alder man before being elevated to mayor upon the death of James Griffin. Bowen was also well known as a coach, serving as basket ball mentor at Chinook High School during a teacher short age several years ago. In 1947 his Beeter team played in the state Class B Tournament at Glasgow. He taught agriculture, biology and shop since gradu ation from Montana State Uni versity in 1928 with a degree in agriculture. Born June 11, 1907, in Hight man, Iowa, Bowen came to Mon tana with his parents in 1913 and attended high school at Wor den. In addition to serving as Fu ture Farmers of America spon sor in Chinook for many years he held various positions in local and state education associ ations. Bowen was senior class sponsor for more than 30 years and was a past president of the Association of Agriculture Teachers. Bowen was a baseball player in earlier years and was an avid golfer. Besides his widow, Marie, he is survived by a son Larry, Chinook; daughters, Mrs. Carl (Lorna) Tanberg, Great Falls, and Mrs. Bill (Floy) Weidner, Grandview, Wash.; brothers Tom and David, both of Worden and sisters Edith, Walnut Creek, Calif., and Mrs. Marjorie Sherw rod, Ballantine.
