—The New York Independent having stated that Joshua P. Bmitli, a colored man recently received intoSt. Andrew’s Lodge, Boston, was the first colored man ever admitted to white fellowship in that State, the Troy Budget gives it a flat cuntradlctlSQ, and eaya -the Mm-onicorder makes no distinction on account of color, and never has in admitting member* to the order/’ giving in support of the assertion the name of a colored man of Troy nauiod Kich, who has taken the highest degrees of Masonry We think the Independent is right and the Budget in error. There arc negro Masonic Lodges in this country, working under charter* from the Urand Lodge of England or Canada ; but their existence lias never been formally acknowledged by the Lodges of the I nited States, or their memlwrs admitted to fellowship, and,although we have known instances where white Mason* visited the Lodge* of colored Masons, we have not known the same privilege* extended in return, or a colored man initiated id them.
