Sphar celebrated fiftieth anniversary of their married life and the fiftieth anniversary of tlicir residence in Kansas. The two events were celebrated with a dinner party at their home. Twenty four guests sat down to a splendid three course dinner consisting of many good things to eat including turkey. Several beautiful present': I were received by the aged couple. 1 brother of Mr. Sphar presented them with fifty dollars in gold certificates. A sister, who herself has passed by ten.years the allotted three score and ten years of life presented them with a set of silver spoons.Mr, Sphar' is 76 years old. He was born July 14, 1834. Mrs. Sphar .is six years younger. She was bora December 37, 1846. The• ouple were maHedV near Humbolt. iyans., January 1, I860, It happened that the wedding day was in the first day of the week, month and .•ear. Tim eo-ij !e have lived all heir, married iijfY in Kansas. * For i short time during the storm of the ebellion they left the state andwent to Kentucky, where Mr. Sphar joined the third Kentucky cavalry. He served throughout the war in company II of this regiment:^ When the war was over husband• 'ul wife were nsrain united mid .-rue back to the state in which they ••re married. They resided four' .dies north bf Ilumholt until 3879 when they removed to Dougins county. Since that time the couple has resided in Lawrence and on Buck Creek. Seven children have been born to them, of whom three -till survive. The living children are -T. S, Sphar and Chester O. Sphar, of Kansas City and Robert Sphar of 'his cityThe couple were married in a smalt og cabin, such; os were common in •he early .history of Kansas. Mr. .nid Mrs. Sphar come of a long lived family. Mr; Sphar has four brothers and one' sister, the youngest being 63 years ohl. The oldestpast SO and all are in the bos* of health. i
