oTAJN XJAKD :\'kSrsDAV.—■Mrs, Capt. Cros^land. gave a lt;tea party this evening, in honor of tier ( son, Eil., and his bride. There were prer- ^ ent, besides her own family—the Capt. ■ iB absent on business—Mr, and Mrs. John -L. Davies, Mr. Nara M, White and Mr. and Mrs. J. IT, Mack ley. And a pleasant, happy evening it was, too. Ed. Cross-1 f imd was married at Pikoton, on last Thursday evening, by the llev. George Clierington, of the M. E. Church, the wed-ding being after this fashion: Ed. took his lady-love. Miss Dora Downing, and a * lady Mend out for a sleigh-ride. The t parties live in Waverly. They rode to f Piketon, put up at a hotel, and Ed.pjaved 1 the landlord in his sleigh and sent him after a minister, Mr. Cherlngton arrived. ^ married them, and they wont home and *■ told Maj. Downing, tin- brides father, ^ about it. as he had strongly objected to I the marriage. The Maj. didn’t like the i idea of his child marrying so young, but f what could he do? Why he could give P them his blessing, which he did, Mrs. 1 Dora is a pleasant, sweet-faced little la- 1 dy, and we arc inclined to think Ed. has 1 secured a prize .Rev, Mr. Hopkins [preached at the Presbyterian Church, today, morning and evening At theif. E. Church, to-night, while services were going on, a drunk man came to the door. Jfe was not dressed in a ga b which would look Switching in a churc’ . and Sexton May requested him to go in or out, and not be standing at tha door. The drunken fellow leered at him for a moment, and exelaimed: “You (hie) n:-mind me (Me) good deal o* Jesus (hie) Christ!* Mr. May then reminded him of the necessity of his going out. and going fast.
