IMPORTANT INVENTION.A poor but very ingenious mechanic, or Philadelphia, has been, to our know-ledge, many years employed in the in-vention and perfection of an improved safety lock, which he denominates, not improperly, a Patent Trap Lock. The patentee’s name is Samuel Goodwin.— His lock is intended and well calculated for the outside doors of public buildings, stores and private houses, and will greatly add to the security of the vaults of . hanks, iron chests, fire proofs, l?c. Uc. The inventor has received a premium of twenty dollars tt rougli the bauds of Robert Wharton, esq. mayor of the city of Philadelphia, under the direction of the will of the late Dr. Scott, granting premiums for useful inventions. The lock has been exhibited at the cofice house, where it we* greatly admired for its ingenuity, simplicity and strength. There is a singular advantage in this lock. It is so connived that any key. but its own, being introduced into the lock, it is made fast and cannot be rc moved by the knave who for dishonest purposes had introduced it. Notwithstanding its simplicity it is so constructed that if five hundred locks and keys were made no key would open any ohc but the one for which it was originally made.It is a perfect safe-gaurd against pick locks. Those who like an excellent and moderately cheap lock ; those who would encourage ingenuity struggling under the pressure of want, would do we I to examine this lock. f Don. Pre**\
