October 14, 1915 Johnnie Sykes and Miss Bessie Spoon returned home, Sunday, from Brownwood where they at tended the fair and incidentally secured a marriage license and called on a minister. Johnnie is a Frisco employee while Miss Spoon is the daughter of Jake Spoon, a well known farmer of Menard County. Menard is at last to have a resident minister, the Methodist officials will put one here after conference which will be held this month at San Angelo. Men ard has long stood a minister permanently located here and it is to be hoped that Menard will give ‘him a good liv ing. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Newt Chapman in Brady on last Wed nesday a baby girl. W.C. Benton, John Treadwell Tom Balk, and’ Wylie. Thomlin son of Ft. McKavett passed thru here, Saturday; on their way home.from Mason where they have been attending court. Elzie Reeves was up. from next Monday,Elzie has resigned his position as foreman of the Mur chison ranch and is now raising lambkins ‘and ‘things on his own hook, chapter left Monday, for Ft. Worth where they will attend the meeting of the state delegates. George Grandstaff has added his wife’s name to the Messenger list. He has been in the habit of forgetting to take home the great religious weekly and takes this means of getting rid of the re sponsibility.
