'found no traceOF MISSING LADYMystery Still Surrounds, Disappearf w ■ance of Freshwater Woman ;JTP TO6 p.m. yesterday there was nosign of Mrs. Baird, wife of Mr, Martin Baird, of Freshwater Bay, who disappeared from her home at 9.30 Friday night and to which The Star briefly referred in Saturdays issue.At 11.30 a.m. Sunday, DetectiveWhalen proceeded to Freshwater Bay and helpcd/in the search for the body of the unfortunate woman.. It was tough Saturday and not much could be done in the matter of looking tor the body. Sunday morning however, the four brothers Ennis of Freshwater and a brother of Mrs. Baird in their motor boat prosecuted the search, and Const. Whalen with two other men in_ a boat joined also in the quest.The men used water glasses to% * - . lt;search the shoals and alsft used jiggers in the deeper waters but without effect After searching for about two hours[a N.E. wind arose causing a heavy sea and the men had to desist.*As far as The Star can learn, Mrs. Baird had been afflicted of late with melancholie,' at intervals, and was noticed to weep often for no apparent reason.Friday night she had been washing.some clothing for her children and at0.30 left the kitchen and went outsidethe door to throw away sine waterHer husband was reclining 011 acouch in the kitchen and when the wo-*man'did not return in the course %of ten minutes or so, became uneasy-and anxious. Providing a lantern, Mr. Baird went in search of his wife and•' 0traced her footsteps in the snow to the edge of the cliff about 30 yards away from his home.Some of tlic snow which had laden on a large stone near the edge of the cliff or declivity was seen to he swept oft* evidently by the woman’s dress .as she passed by it. Mr. Baird, coming tothe conclusion that something, terrible had occurred gave the alarm to the neighbors and searched fruitlessly to** the better part of the night and coming to the city on foot reported die terrible happening to the police.When at work in her home Friday dght, Mrs. Baird- wore an overskirt owned by her -husbancl. which she had affixed to the front of her dress, and this wa* found in the landwash by some of the searchers, under the clift to the top of which her tootsteps nadEd.It*, as seems probable, the woman ■‘nt o' er die clift the body must have ’w.nway m thc^ high seawhich ran and most likely carried well out in Freshwater Bay hv the current.\fr^.
