Official swearing in cere monies were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Vigo County Courthouse for ten county offi cials elected Nov. 6, two of them to assume their duties on de layed dates and Judge H. Ralph Johnston assuming the Vigo Circuit Court bench for his first six-year term. County Clerk Leonard Con rad administered the oaths of office to Johnston; Ralph Berry, prosecutor; Herbert O. Beasley, sheriff; Judge Harold J. Bitze gaio, Vigo Superior Court No. 1; A. Leroy Lewzader, auditor; Fred “Fritz” Bauer, county as sessor; William R. Cox, record er; Michael J. Sweeney and Jo seph Silcock, commissioners; and Claude E. Reese, surveyor. Immediately thereafter, a re ception was held in their honor in the second floor rotunda. AH courthouse offices were closed for the day to official business. Members of the Vigo County Bar Association presented John ston and Bitzegaio with judi ciary robes to wear on formal occasions. Johnston succeeds Judge Her bert R. Criss, who had occupied the county court bench since vacating his City Court judge ship January 1, 1952, to accept the first of two successive six year terms. Berry succeeds himself in the prosecutor’s office, having first been elected four years ago as did Judge Bitzegaio and and Sheriff Beasley, each of whom also succeed themselves. All three have registered not ably successful records in of fice. Also succeeding themselves
