The Gay Thirteen Bridge Club presented their annual dance on the evening of Dcember twenty, seventh, at the Skating Rink. The affair is always one of the love liest of the season. ‘The rink was beautifully dec orated with Christmas greenery and there was a lovely lane of Christmas trees through which he guests entered. At midnight the officers of the club and the members of the newly-organized Junior Gay Thirteen Bridge Club were introduced with Mr. Walter (Duke) Williams acting as master of ceremonies. They were lovely in their gowns of parted shades. The Junior members who were in troduced are Misses Louise and Marionette Clemons, Miss Ruth Shirley, Miss Louise Singleton, Miss Jessie Mae Williams, Miss Autherine Davis, Miss Dorothy Oliver, Miss Vivian Wilson and Miss Eunice Price, ‘The officers of the Senior Club are: Mrs. Elise Williams, presi dent; Miss Hazel Tucker, secre tary; Miss Ann Richardson, as sistant secretary; Mrs. Ella, Luck ett, treasurer; Mrs. Lucile Harris, business manager and Mrs. Ruby Stewart, chairman of the social committee, ‘ Miss F. ©. Alexander has re turned home after spending Christ mas holidays with her sisters, Mrs. Frances Greene and Mrs. Gladys Topp, and her father, Mr. , Henry Reed. Miss Helaise and Margaret Amos of New Orleans, La, spent a few hours in Jackson Sunday visiting Miss Gwendolyn Greene. Miss Nora Lou Chambliss is spending the holidays with her father, Mr. J. R. Chambliss, By Rose Street, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Jones, of Dalton Street, are spending the holidays in Greenville, Miss., as guests of Mrs. M. E. Manning, Mr. Randolph Wallace of De troit, Mich., spent last Thursday in the city visiting his parents, Rev. and Mrs. BE. W. Wallace, of West Pasagoula St. He also mo tored to Meridian to spend a few hours with Rev. L. E. Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. John Floyd, The Senior Choir of Pearl St,’ 4M.E. Church gave a lovely Christmas party at the home of’ Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Newman. Delicious refreshments were serv ed by the hostess. The home was beautiful with its decorations of the Christmas season. Mrs. Henrietta Travis Norris is spending the holidays with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Hubert. The City Federation will meet the first Monday in February at the Branch Y.W.C.A. The meeting will be at 5 o'clock p.m. All mem bers are requested to be Present. Mrs. H. L. Denton is in Grand Rapids, Mich., visiting her sister Mrs. B. W. Wilson. Pascagoula St, Mr. and Mrs. Newman Ford. of Chicago, TIL, are spending the iidays in the city, Mrs. Ford in © former Velma Wilson of Jack. n, AMEDA BETA CHAPTER OF ETA PHI BETA SOROROTY ‘The charter members of Lambda eta Chapter of Jackson College only and wisely selected their l ‘st “little sisters”. hey are Ka eyn Baughn, Florida Parr, John . Pearl Barnes, Mary Elizabeth Kell, Sadie L. Williams and jattie Baker. After being properly introduced . both the graduate and under ‘to both the graduate and under gradate chapters of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority these young ladies were pledged and went through a pe riod of probation. After some weeks of anxious waiting, the four mentioned young ladies were invited into Zeta Phi Beta Sorori ty. The Sorority has eleven mem bers in its undergraduate chap ter. On Monday evening, November 29th, at 6 o'clock, the members of Lambda Beta Sorority, along with Mrs. Polk, Dean of Pledges of the graduate chapter, were guests of President and Mrs. Jacob L. Red dix, Pres. Reddix and his family were serenaded by the sorors who sang “Jackson Fair’, “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean,” “Auld Lang Syne”, “Zeta Phi Beta” and other songs suitable for the occasion. Pres. Reddix and his family were showered with gifts from the chap ter. After the serenade the sorers and the Reddix family enjoyed re freshments and a half hour of fellowship during which Pres. Reddix explained the nature of his trip to the Republic of Liberia. The sorers are participating in many of the extracurricular ac tivities on the campus. Sorer Kath ryn Vaughn is an outstanding member of the creative Dance ‘Troups, a majorette, and an able assistant in the Z. T. Hubert? Health Center. Loser Alice C. Thigpen is editr of the Blue and White Flash, the school publication, co-chairman of the Meg Club, a member of the Vesper Choir. She is also on the [library staff, ‘ Soror Mattie Paker cited the ‘most intellectual gir] is the Fresh man class. stayed on the dean’s list for all three quarters during the 194748 term. Soror Baker re ceived Zeta’s scholarship award “awed by Joy Soror Johnnie P. Barnes is a member of the Rural Youth Club, the Dunbar Dramatics Club and 45 Chaplain at the Y.W.C.A. Soror Edith Campbell is a member of the Vesper Choir and also a receiver of Zeta’s Scholar ship award, Soror Laura A. Moore was in 147-48 the star acrobat dancer of the Creative Dance Trope, Soror Grace Townes, an ex- majjorette and dance trouper, was Miss Homecoming for 1947. At present she is completing her practice teaching at Utica Insti tute, . Soror Sadie L. Williams voted the most studious and active girl in the Freshman class stayed on the Dean’s list for the three quar ters of 1947-48. At present Soror Williams is holding a $600,00 Scholarship won in an oratorical contest sponsored by the Masons. As a result of high scholastic at tainment Soror Williams was pre sented with a full tuition scholar ship at the commencement exer cises of Jackson College 1948. She is also president of “Barrett Hall Co-ed Club” and secretary of the Rural Youth Club.
