The annual convention of the State Magistrates’ association is being held this week in Lansdale. Members of the minor judiciary from this section are ‘in_attendance. Poor lt, of 20 ° 6 Spruce street and “The High lands,” Ambler, entertained at a luncheon Saturday before the White mosh Valley Hunt Club races. Mr. and Mrs. Roosevelt recently returned from a motor trip to “Gypsy Planta tion, their place in South Carolina. Two machines came together at the intersection of Spring Garden street and Forest avenue last Thursday eve ning. Fortunately, both cars were moving slowly at the time, otherwise there might have been a serious acci dent. Only slight damage, it is said, was done to each car. _ Undertaker Jesse F. Davis expects to have the remodeling and improve ments to his property, corner of Main street and Belmont avenue, finished during the present week. Mr. Davis will then have one of the finest and most modern funeral parlors in the North Penn section. The work is be ing done by A. G. Buchanan Son. A series of menacing and very an noying fires along Poplar street in a nest of frrane structures and warns last week, is being investigated by the local police and a close watch is being kept to determine the origin and to prevent recurrence. On three occasions small blazes were discovered at inter vals of a day -part, and steps were immediately taken by the owners to clean up the rear of their properties ,and to remove all debris into which a lighted cigarette carelessly tossed might cause a serious conflagration. As the result of a collision that took place last Thursday evening at the in tersection of Babylon road and Limre _kiln vike of a truck belonging to John M. Kirk, local plumber, and a pleasure car, Raymond Fertsch was so badly injured that he had to be removed to the Abington hospital. He suffered a number of lacerations and bruises. George Potts, also an employe of Mr Kirk, who was driving the truck at the time, was also injured, but not so ,severely as Mr. Fertsch. Officer Cam pburn made the Investigation, but no tarrasts followed, , Movings during the past week, as re- sported by Charles ‘Rutherford of the Amphler Storage and Warehouse, are the household goods of Street Commis sioner Richie to another property on the same street where he previously lived, Greenwood avenue; the house hold goods of William L. Amos from Montgomeryville and same stored in Mr. [Rutherford’s warehouse; the household goods of George Tuby from Cane May, N. J., to Penllyn; house hold goods of two parties from Glen , side to local warehouse and the same to be sold at public auction. Just as in wartime, emergency gar dens are again being made by a number of men out of employment in order that they may grow their own vegetables. Any local residents desir ing a plot of ground for a truck patch are requested to see Howard J. Caror, local real estate dealer in the Wynd ham Apartment Iaildine. Seeds may also be had free by ‘calling at the North’ Penn Community Center. Not alone are the dogs that run at a large complained of, but the howling tend barking is also a great nuisance. Much has been said by some resi dents in that section between Hen dricks street and Bethlehem nike. Said a citizen of that section, “It is beyond understanding that a family will keep a due to the annoyance of this neighbors.” Owners should endeav or to co-operate with the local authori ties in this situation in ‘order that nothing unpleasant may happen be tween neighbors. Often is the question asked, “What is the matter with the voters of our borough and why is it that not more [interest is taken in the election of can didates?’ For example, one has but jto look_at the returns to use that the question is justifiable. In the First Ward there are more than 900 voters, and there are very few elections when the vote of this ward totals more than 40%, and more often it is around the 1300 mark. Those identified with the political work of the borough have given their opinion that the reason s more voters do not turn out is that the stay-at-homes believe that the pri mary election will go just as they wish, and as to the regular election there is very little change in their opinion. Last September the political workers for the Second ward were very proud for the vote polled from the South tumbler section. It is said that the vote from this section was almost 100 per cent. There is another angle to the situation that may have much to do with the voters not coming to the polls. On several occasions, at primary elections quite a number of our cit izens were denied the right to vote because they were not on the registry list or their party politics was not declared. Because of this the remark is often heard that the situation de priving them of their vote is breght about through crooked politics. These j remarks are unfair and untrue when in quite a number of case the voters themselves are responsible for the ‘condition, because they refuse to give ‘the assessor the information necessary.
