JEFFERSON AND JACKSON TOWNSHIPS.The early history of these towns are identical with the early history of the county.Jefferson City was laid out by Judge Jeremiah Farris, as was stated heretofore, in 1855, Devillo Holmes erecting a steam mill in the town the same year. The first Jefferson township election was held at the house of James Bevard, on section 15, April, 1855. The persons appointed to hold said election were as follows, to-wit: Trustees, Wra. Wes-tervelt, J- H. Messinger and S. Jenkins : clerks, John Pattee and M- Farrington ; and the number of electors that voted at said election were sixty-four,' and the following persons were elected, to-wit: Humphrey Hogan and Wm. P. Harris, justices; H. B. Boycl and W. Hogan, constables; and Wm. Kern and E. J. Messinger, trustees (Julian Webster and Sam. Jennings having received the same number of votes, a tie vote for trustee), and G. A. Michael, township clerk.
