SOLOMON BRIDGES was bom in 1813, in Durban County, Indiana, His parents* names were James Bridges and Elizabeth Green, who had ten children, the oldest of whom was Solomon, the subject of this slcetch. Mr* Bridges* father was a native of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and his mother a native of Kentucky, from near Lexington. They were fanners, and early accustomed Solomon to the principle that labor was honorable, and the proper road to independence and happiness.. His early education was very limited, but he has always been a close observer. His parents moved to Marion County, Indiana, in the fall of 1S33. In 1834, he left Indiana and came to Pleasant Grove Township, Des Moines County, Iowa, where he remained till 1841. In this year he was united in marriage to Hiss Sydney Fleener, by whom he had seven children, who are all now living and in comfortable circumstances. In tS4i, after his marriage, he removed to Yellow Spring Township, and Settled on Section 29, where he has since resided, and most likely will pass the balance of his days. Mr. Bridges first wife, Sydney, died in 1S61, and in 1S6 he was united in marriage to Catharine Cross, who was a native of Iowa. By her he has had four children, who are all living and prospering as agriculturists. Although Mr. Bridges was poor when he started in life, he is now in very prosperous circumstances. He has served faithfully the interests of society in the capacity of Justice of the Peace for a term of eleven years. In politics he has always been Democratic; his first vote was given far James K. Potk. He is ; enthusiastic in his admiration for that Democracy of which Jackson and Douglas | were the patriotic and honored exponents, and is now in earnest and active sympathy with that party whose wise administrations brought the country to its acme of prosperity. He regrets that the mass of our countrymen do not per-! ceive that a friendly administration of the government will bring on a condition j of concord and happiness to a land that has now, under the experiments of the 5 last ten years, not even touched on the brink of complete and universal amity. ! In religion, Mr. Bridges is a Missionary Baptist. His social style is of that i hospitable and generous order that has so long been a distinguishing character-
