From the Fond du Lao Union, Rail Road Meeting at Fair water*Pursuant to a notice of a few days, a large meeting was held at the Hotel at Fairwa-ter, to get the sentiment of the poop!© on continuing the Sheboygan Rail Road west. from Fond du Lac.On motion, Rufns M. Harwood, Esq., was elected President, and Milton Talcott, Esq.. elected Vice President: Oliver Besly Esq., was appointed Secretary. The object of the meeting was briefly explained by the President, with appropriate remarks as to the best route for the R. R. and a desire that all must see the itn-! | portance of the road as the best and chcap-i est outlet for the produce of our rich lands, and hoping when the time did arrive for ; action, that such substantial encouragement by a good round subscription to stock would be made,, as to show that we were sincere io our belief that it would be a paying road,Oliver Bes’y, Esq, then addressed the meeting, stating that the most feasible rou te for the Sheboygan Railroad was west from Fond du Lac until reaching the head waters of Grand River at or near this place, thence following the vailey of the River to near its confluence near Fox River, and then running north of west until reaching the Wisconsin River. Thus securing the produce both north and south of this line from Sands unsurpassed in productiveness by any in the State, furnishing yearly sufficient to give ample business to this line ' of road. This would secure a large share of the produce south of Grand River, which is now carried by the La Crosse R. R. It would also develop© a large amount! of water power on Grand River, now un-! employed. The productive lands of Grand Prairie, lying south of the above line, would find this road their best and nearest market, Mr. J. Huntington was next called upon, and he 6aid be was well acquaintedwith the nbove proposed line, that there was no deep cuttings nor high embankments, from Fond du Lac to the Wisconsin, and a more desirable route could not be selected, as to its practicability and the nd- • vantages to be derived from the income of the road. The large Prairie cnlled Grand Prairie, lying south of Grand River, would thencontribute her million bushels of grain to be transported upon this road, which now' contributes so largely to the revenue of the La Crosse, and the Milwaukee Horicon Rail Roads.A committee consisting of Messrs. Board-mnn, Gaskill, and Huntington, were then appointed to draft resolutions, to be submitted to the meeting.A committee was also appointed consisting of Messrs. Huntington, Robbins, (Jhat-field, and Besley, to confer with tbe inhab knots of the adjoining town of Mackford and Green Lake, and other towns on tbe proposed line, and learn what encouragement they will give in aid of said R. R, The following resolutions were then presented, and unanimously adopted by the meeting.Resolved, That the extension of the Sheboygan Railroad beyond Fond du Lac is of vital importance to the stockholders in said road.Resolved, That a line due west from Fond du Lac through Fairwnter, at or near the head waters of Grand River and thence down the valley of said River through the villages of Mackford, Granville, 2sew Albany, and Kingston, thence to the Wisconsin River, presents the most feasible route as to grade, that can be selected, and' be-mg equally, distant from the Milwaukee «fe La Crosse, and Milwaukee and Horicon Rail Honda.Resolved, That the towns of Metoraen and Alto in Fond du Lac County, feel .a deep interest in the construction of said Rail Road west from Fond du Lac, on tbe line above mentioned, and we pledge our-I series to use our endeavors to raise §20,000 in each town in aid of said Rail Road, provided this line is adopted by the board j of directors.Resolved, Thnt a committee be appoint-i ed to induce the towns of Mackford and ■ | Green Lake, and other towns in the County of Murquctte, to lend their aid to further the above enterprise.Resolved, That we invite the directors to examine the route we have indicated, and satisfy themselves of the advantages we have set forth.Resolved, That the large amount of produce raised upon the rich lands of Greon Labe and Grand Prairies, are unsurpassed by any other portion of our country, and the line we have indicated will secure the majority of said produce for transportation, and will develope a large amount of waterpower on Grand f?iver susceptable of improvement.t
