Scales and chit are in the city en route to Virginia and New York states where Mrs. Scales will visit with friends and relatives. , ‘The funeral of Wm. Dose who died Saturday morning of pneumonia was held from the family residence this aft ernoon at 2 o'clock. ‘The impressive ceremonies were conducted by Rev. Baer. The Nez Perce County Pioneers’ association attended the funeral in a body also many friends of the de ceased. Numerous floral offerings were in evidence. M R. Ireland of Alpowal is in the city on business. Mr. Ireland states that the fruit outlook for the coming sea son is very encouraging. He also states that he expects to have a heavy supply of early vegetables and says that the large amount of peas which he has planted are already springing up with the fair prospects of being in shape for market in the very near fu ture. The White Bros. company has contracted the fruit and vegetables from Mr. Leland's place for this sea son. Greenville Holbrook of Clarkston left this afternoon for Grangeville where he goes to look after right of ways for the Lewiston Southeastern Electric line. The local land office is engaged in hearing the contest case of Emil Beck vs. Jos. Murray. The contest involves a stone and timber entry of 160 acres situated near Sweetwater, the contest rant alleges that the land in question is more valuable as agriculture land and that the entry was fraudulent. Attor ney E. A. Cox is representing Beck and Attorneys Mullin and Williams are representing Murray. God, H. Lake, the pioneer jeweler, announces that he will close out his stock of goods with a view of tem porarily retiring from business. The late move of Mr. Lake is the decision arrived at owing to the fact that he will soon have to give up his present location in the Weisgerber building at ‘Matin, near Fifth street.
