Joseph H. Abbott:This morning about (1:110 o'clock the people of Hast Galena were aturtlcd by the report of a pistol, and a crowd rushed to the home of George Abbott, where the shot won fired, and found the above named gentleman lying in u pool of blood which was issuing from a hole in the right temple, produced by u 38* calibre pistol ball, and the weapon was lying liy Ilia side.The facts in the case as far as c an be gleaned are as follows: Mr. Abbott came from Pittsburg this morning oil the early Memphis train, having visited relatives there and at Fort Scott the past week. It appears that he stepped up on the porch at his home, set down his valise and deliberately shot himself through the head.A letter was found in his pocket stating that no one was too blame lor his death, and that his brother, Hen Abbott, of Scummon, would look after his burial und insurance money.Geo. Abbott was ail old and respected citizen, was formerly a clerk in the dry goods store of Jno. M. Cooper A Co., and afterward was in thl* grocery business with J. A. Byrd in this city. He was a member of the K. of P.. Modern Woodmen of America, A. O. C. W. and Select Knights lodges.He was the father of two daughters, both of whom are married, one being Mrs. F. C. Nicholson of Pittsburg und the other, Mrs. K. II. Kddy of this city.Mrs. Abbott, wife of the deceased, was j list across the street nursing her daughter, Mrs. R. II.
