Ash Grove, Marionville and Springfield Greenwood have ad vanced to first-round action of the Missouri Class 1A Basket ball Tournament after winning regional meets last week. Ash Grove, winner Friday night over Dadeville in their own meet, will meet the Mid west Conference member Marionville at 7 p.m. in one of two games at Hammons Sports Center, Southwest Missouri State University of Springfield. In the 8:30 nightcap, Coach of Myrtle will meet Springfield Greenwood. Marionville and Greenwood shared the Midwest Conference cage title with Class 2A Stockton which bowed earlier in their own regional meet. Derwin Springer’s two char ties with seven seconds left put Marionville past the Purdy Eagles in the Billings Regional, 80-79. The clubs split two regular season games with the home team prevailing in each contest. Purdy moved out to a 24-22 first-period lead, only to see Marionville bounced back for a 42-41 spread at the intermission. Purdy went back on top in the third period, 59-56, only to be outscored, 24-18, in the final eight minutes of play. Springer’s charities put Greenwood on top by four with Perry Davis’ jumper at the buz zer producing the final margin. Game scoring honors went to the Comets’ Greg McCord with 30 markers. Springer added 21 tallies as Jim White totaled 16. Davis paced five Purdy players in double figures with 22 markers. Glen Scott and Bob Utter finished with 16 points each while Mark Davis and Alan Rhea tallied 12 and 11 poin ts, repectively. The victory improved Marionville’s season slate to 22- 3 while Purdy finished with the Ozark ‘‘8 ' Conference title and a 19-5 leg overall. At Ash Grove, the Pirates were forced to come back in the fourth period to check upset minded Dadeville. The Bearcats were on top, 3- 34, going into the final frame when the hosts came up with 21 tallies to only 10 for the losers. Ash Grove moved on top, 12- 10, after the first period, only to see Dadeville come back for a 28-24 halftime spread. Ash Grove took the lead for keeps with 5:30 left in the con test. Brian Nicholson led the win ning effort with 14 points as teammates Greg Peters and Paul Smith added 12 each. Game honors went to Dadeville’s Rick Dodson with 17 tallies as Kenny Toler added 12. The loss dropped Dadeville to 21-8 for the season while Ash Grove now stands 22-5. Individual scoring: Mariondville (80)--McCord 30, White 16, springer 21, McCulley 2, T. Estes 5 and §.
