*Declamatory Contest Tryouts HeldFor the past few weeks several £ the students of the Montpelier igh School have been busily en« aged in work for the declamatory contest. Last Friday tryouts dr humorous and dramatic read-assembly at,City Hallj Helen* Slevens won ace m humorous, reading The Last Day at School and Phyllis Kunz took second place with at the Races”. Ruth Robinson won first place in the dramatic contest, reading “Daddy Doc”, and Ruth Kunz was given second place with ‘White Hands of Telham.” 'Monday s^ernoonTtxy pnts_ were held for the^ oratoricalcontest^ TOiron Nelson, Dona 'WnHeer and Rulon Bartschi read “The Constitution”, and Wendell Stout, Zera Nelson and Sylvia Housley read The Masterful Man of the Ages-—Abraham Lincoln.” Aaron Nelson and Donald Welker won first and second places, respectively, in this contest.Those acting as judges were Mrs. Louise Adams, Mrs. H. H. King, Messrs. S. H. Spencer, J. Vern Dunn and Jerome Taylor. The winners of these contests will represent the M. H. S. at the sub-district contest, which will probably be held March 14th at Malad.On Monday, March 10th, at the Gem Theatre, four one-act plays will be presented by the Public Speaking class. The winning play will be presented at Malad in connection with the readings. Twenty six people are taking part under the direction of Miss Venice Lybbert, and the affair promises to be of the highest type of entertainment. This content should be of great interest as it is thefirst of it's type to be staged in Montpelier.
