LACON BOY HONOREDCharles H. Ramp Receives Merited Promotion at Camp Dodge— Lacon Friends RejoiceThe good news reached Lacon Wed-j nesday afternoon that Sergeant Charles H. Ramp, one of the numerous Lacon boys who have entered the service of Uncle Sam, had received a merited promotion at Camp Dodge and that he is to enter upon his new duties at once. Mr. Ramp is a son , of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Ramp and until his enlistment in the service he had spent his whole life in Lacon and vicinity. His* numerous friends are naturally rejoicing over the good news. A press report from Camp Dodge under date of February 27 says:“Charles H. Ramp, selected forservice with the Eighty-eighth Na-.tional army division here from Lacon, 111., will not look after the wants of the men any longer. Drawn from civil life, Ramp soon qualified as a non-commissioned officer and was made regimental supply sergeant for the Three Hundred Forty-ninth infantry. In this position it was his duty to draw all the supplies for the three thousand men in the regiment and check it out to the various companies. The position is considered one of importance and carries a large measure of responsibility. In special orders issued by Maj. Gen E. H. Plummer recently. Sergeant Ramp was transferred to the finance branch of the quartermaster's corps and ordered to report to the camp quartermaster for duty. The finance department has entire, charge of the monthly payrolls for the division.i * I
