DepartedOld Glory, waving at half-mast last Friday, told the people of this community that another oi those who had fought to defend her in an hour of peril, had been called Home.Joseph Madison Bran nan was born in Morgan County. Ohio, October 3, 1832. lie died at his home in Meade, February 22 1918.At the age of twelve years he moved with his parents to White County Indiana. He was left fatherless in 1840, and at this early age grave responsibilities were thrown upon him to help his widowed mother, two sisters and two brothers maintain their livelihood on the frontiers of Indiana.He was married December 1. 1859 to Miss Nancy J. Andersoo. Their four children, Mrs. Clara B. B Mitchell, Mrs. Mary K, Martin and R. A. Brannan, all of Meade and H. G. Brannan, of St. Raul, Arkansas are living. His wife preceeded him to the Re wards of Life nine years ago.When his country was in dan ger he heard the call and enlist ed in the 72nd Indiana Regiment of Wilders Brigade in July 1802and served until the close of thewar.In 1883 he moved to Harpercounty Kansas and the next year to Meade county where he has since resided. He lived on his farm east of this city until twelve years ago when he retired and moved to Meade.Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the M. E. M. E. Church, of which deceased was a member, conducted by Rev. W. G. Baker, of Biicklin, as sisted by Rev. Geo. A. Kraft of this city.The members of the G. A. K were present in a body to pay their last tribute of respect to their departed comrad.Interment was made in Grace-Iand Cemetery.
