“Buffalo BW Again — Further Particulars of the Impressive Morve Thiefon the Buffalo Pimally Came to Grasa—Viewn of Amother Correspondent, Reported Specially: for the Dubuque Merald. Osage, Feb. 25. We published yesterday an account of how a cute horse thief won his way into the confidence and admiration of the good people of Osage, under the taking garb of “Buffalo Bill,” the great hunter story-writer. Today we are favored with another correspondence on the same subject. The particulars of the affair, additional to what has al ready appeared, we append as follows: At the close of the lecture Shovill Ramsdell appeared upon the scene, having quietly put in his time on the stairway for a half hour previous, and gravely informed him that he was his prisoner. “Buffalo Lil” demurred at first, but finally concluded to accept the situation, and was taken to the Dunton house and kept waiter guard until morning, when he was taken in custody by the sheriff of Buchanan county, who took the morning train for Independence. It appears that this person over Whom so many of our sensible people became 80 excited is none other than a notorious gambler who formerly kept it fare bank at Independence, and was a frequenter of the bagnios with which that virtuous city seems go well sup plied. His real name is Johnson and the party who came with him roce by the name of Downs. The latter was also arrested and taken to Independ ence. The charge against them is ob taining property under false pretences. Their modus opérandi is: Johnson goes where there has been an estray horse advertised, and lays claim to the animal. Then along comes Downs who pretends to be deputy sheriff of Buchanan county, and testifies that the horse belongs to Johnson, ‘The ani mal is thus secured and sold at the first opportunity. ‘They brought a fine span of young horses with them, and sold them to one Geo. Briggs for ninety to dollars. Briggs, who is consider ed a good judge of real estate, tax tiles and county warrants, had $1,000 Which cried loudly that this was the genuine “Buffalo Bill”. Norton, who is considered shrewd in speculations, had fifty dollars to five upon the same; M.M.Brown, attorney at law, was fully convinced that this was the true “Buffalo Bil’ Today it is dangerous to say “Buffalo” to any of them: {t would not be safe to say “it; it would be certain death to say “Buffalo Lil” Jerome Arentor who was the first to recognize and believe in the impostor, has not been seen since the arrest was made, and it is impossible to find a person who attended the lec ture, except your correspondent. I must not forget to add that the net proceeds amounting to something over $24, were delivered to the Baptist Sun day school, which seems to be the only tranquil organization in town.
