Maras, son of Gene and Judy Maras of Howland, is a senior at Howland High School.Gary has played varsity soccer for two years for Howland both as a mid-fielder and a full-back.He has also been on the varsity baseball team one year as a pitcher and first baseman. He spent two years in JV baseball, ran track and played football in the junior high.He has also played basketball for two years for St. John ‘s Church and has bowled since he was six years old. He has bowled on the Echo and Junior Elks Bowling leagues.Gary enjoys swimming, tennis, jogging, and weight lifting. He played Youngstown B-League baseball for Monan Enterprises for one year.Collecting coins is a hobby for Gary.He is especially partial to soccer, starting three years ago playing on an H.A.C. league teamcoached by Mr. Bichard Hartzell. His position at that time was fullback.The second year, he joined the newly formed Howland Varsity Soccer Team coached by Mr George Capellas.Their record was 8-5. This year Gary started as fullback and moved up to mid-fielder. He had five goals to his credit. The team record was 15-0-1 and they won the Tri-County League Championship.Gary lettered both years in soccer and this year was very pleased to be named to the Tri-County All-Star Team.Players were selected by the high school coaches from all of the teamsSays Gary, “I am especially interested in playing soccer this year for the Falcon Soccer Team at Bowling Green State University, where I plan to go and enter the field of Business Administration.” He hopes to become a certified public accountant.GARY.
