SAN ANTONIO HAS ANOTHER ASSET JUST COMPLETED THAT ASTONISHES AND PLEASES VISITORS vast improvement for this section. The Sixth ward enjoys a good population of 17,557, exclusive of Fort Sam Hous ton. The Seventh ward, not only during the past twelve months but for the year previous, has held the record for the fastest growing section of the city, not only in point of population but in the matter of substantial im provements in the building line. With a wide area, half of which is only built up, the ward is being rapidly de veloped and promises within the com ing year to make such strides that will rank near the top as one of the largest wards in point of improvements. The ward now enjoys the distinction of holding the greatest number of in habitants of any ward in the city, the new city census giving it a total of 23,878 persons. Within the past twelve months 599 permits were taken out by property owners in this district of the city for improvements, representing an expend iture of $365,715. The ward stands third in line with reference to improve ments for the year, showing an in crease of over $70,000, as compared with its splendid record for the pre vious year, when the total cost of im provements reached $298,285. The re markable growth of this section is ac counted for by reason of the fact that some of the most beautiful subdivi sions are located within its domain, in cluding South Heights. This territory, by reason of its location with refer ence to the city, being to the south east, permits the residents thereof to enjoy the unstinted cool summer gulf breezes. With a territory a third as large as that of the Third ward, the Eighth ward, as shown by the new city census, has a population of 11,493. The in crease in this ward is attributed to the rapid development of beautiful new ad ditions opened up in the southern por tion of the ward.
