Decoyed From HI* Home by a Stranger and Assassinated.Pierre, S. I), Feb. 25.—Last night Ed Hunter, an Indian living on Cherry creek, about seventy-flve miles west of here, came in and reported the murder of his brother-in-law, August Rich, better known as Kid Rich. The report Is to the effect that late Friday evening some one rapped at the door of Rlch'a house and when the door was opened by James Cavanaugh, a relative of Rich, the party stepped back in the darkness and asked for Kid. Rich went out, and after a short conference with the stranger, came back and reported that Straight Head, the chief of the Indian police, wanted to see him at Cherry Creek agency, and he would go. The two left together and Rich was found by an Indian an hour later lying in the road about two miles from home, shot in the hack. Who tfie 6tranger was is unknown.
