On Sunday, February 23, 1992, at 7:13 a.m., the Buffalo-Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Depart ment received a call of a house fire at Route 4, Monticello. Owned by Rex and Lora Lawson, the home is located on White County road 800 East between county roads 1000 and 1100 north. The daughter of the Lawsons, Vicki J. Scott, 37, of Gary, Indiana, was found in an upstairs bedroom on the floor near the west wall, the apparent victim of smoke inhalation. Investigating at the scene were White County Coroner Larry Smith, Bob Dean of the Indiana Fire Marshall's Office, the Buffalo-Liberty Township Fire Department, and Chief Deputy John Roberts and Deputy Jay Welches of the White County Sheriff's Department.
