WAXE hires Mundy for Vero Dodger broadcastsVERO BEACH — The Vero Beach Dodgers have hired Rick Mundy and Dave Peterson as radio play-by-play announcer and public address announcer for the upcoming 1989 Florida State League season.Mundy, 35, of Port Charlotte, will broadcast all 140 Vero Beach home and road games on WAXE-AM (1370). Mundy, a native of Carmi, 111., has been the sports director and morning drive personality at WCTQ-FM in Venice, Fla. He also writes, records and produces a 90-second sports commentary which airs on WCTQ and WAMR. Mundy has been making attempts to have the show syndicated.In addition, he has broadcast experience in covering Texas Rangers spring training games and Port Charlotte games in the Florida State League.“To be part of the Dodger organization is something I never dreamed of,’’ Mundy stated in a press release. “I’ve been a Dodger fan for so long, and I’ve visited Dodgertown a lot with my family, so we all are very excited and looking forward to starting.’’Vero Beach general manager Tom Simmons said, “The Vero Beach Dodgers are very happy to have an announcer of Riclr’s capabilities. I think Dodger fans will find him pleasant to listen to and will enjoy his personal delivery. We are looking forward to a great season on WAXE radio.’’Mundy and his wife, Eileen, have two children: Lee Ann, 7, and Matthew David, 9 months.Peterson, 38, of Vero Beach, will handle all public address announcements at Holman Stadium.“It was a big surprise,’’ stated Peterson, a native of Cleveland, Ohio. “I have worked with (former Dodger announcer) Joe Sanchez, who recommended me for the job. I’ll enjoy working for the Vero Beach Dodgers as much as I enjoy coming out and watching them.’’Simmons added, “It will be a pleasure to work with Dave during the coming season because of his experience and professional approach. He will be a great addition.”
