Oscar F. SussOscar Frederick Suss, the son of John Andrew and Jane Halverson, was born on Jan. 29, 1889 in Palo Alto county and passed away at the Milford Nursing Center on Feb. 18, 1976 after a lingering illness of two years. He was granted 87 years and 20 days of life’ by his Creator.Oscar attended country school in Palo Alto county in his early years. On March 29, 1911 at Ayrshire, Iowa he was united in marriage to Glennia Hill and to this union were born one daughter, Hazel, and a son, Merle. The Suss’s spent their entire life together in Palo Alto county. In latter years, winters were spent in Largo, Florida.Oscar Suss spent his entire lifetime as a farmer and cabinet builder. He was a member of the REA board for about twenty years, active in the Farm Bureau, and served on the Ruthven Telephone Co. board for many years.He was baptised and confirmed in the Danish Lutheran Church and later transferred his membership to the Ruthven United Methodist Church.Surviving are his son Merle Andrew Suss, of rual Ruthven, his daughter Hazel Belle Dodge of rural Milford, and two sisters, Clara Nelson of Graettinger and Lill Skow of Bell, Calif. He was preceded in death by his wife, a sister, Helene, and four brothers, Albert, George, Leon, and Ted. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.Services were held in the Ruthven United Methodist Church on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. with Rev. F. G. Samak, officiating, T.A. Christiansen, Organist, Miss Pam Toland, Solosit; Hymns: “Softly and Tenderly, Jesus Is Calling”-“Me Leadeth Me”. Pallbearers were Clarence Ruchle, A.L.Miller, Carl Peterson, Jake Noekstra, James Opoien, Ron Erockmeyer. IInterment was in Crown Hill Cemetery at Ruthven.
