The double murder at Newark was inspired by a desire to rob.Janson Shackelford, aged 2S,colored of Newark, wanted there for the mur* dor of his grandmother, Mrs. Jane Shackelford, aged 05, and her ' half brother, Elias Woodford, aged 65, found dead February 19, was killed by Detective Wank and Hanrahan, of Cincinnati, when he resisted arrest in a house there Friday night. Chief of Police J, H, Sheridan of Newark, was in Columbus looking for Shackelford, and was notified Friday night of the shooting while here.Shackelford killed the aged people •by beating them to death with a table leg.
