Track and field officials involved with the National Junior College Athletic Association national outdoor track and field meet will gather at 7 tonight at the Odessa College Sports Center. Coach James Segrest of the Wranglers’ track team said the meeting is open to any interested persons. The NJCAA outdoor nationals will be staged May 15-17 at Ratliff Stadium. This will be the second straight year for Odessa College to be host for the meet which will have both men's and women's divisions. Boosters The Odessa High School Broncho Booster Club will stage a reception for recently-hired head football coach Jerry Taylor and his staff at 7:30 p.m. today at the OHS cafeteria. Taylor will speak at a booster club meeting following the reception. Baseball ALPINE — Su Ross State University, 6-9, completed a three-game baseball sweep of Trinity University Sunday with a 4-3 victory. The Lobos won with a three-run eighth inning. Second baseman John Bowman batted in the winning run with a sacrifice fly. Bowman has replaced Judd Ryan of Midland who suffered a foot injury. Shay Morris of Andrews pitched five innings in relief and picked up the victory. His record is 2-1. Sul Ross will play double-headers here Friday and Saturday against Western New Mexico University. MONAHANS — Permian High School launched its 1986 baseball season this afternoon in a single game against MonAhans High School. Jimmy Davis made his debut as the Panthers’ head coach. Permian will compete in the District 4-5A pre-season tournament in Odessa Friday and Saturday. Basketball Five Permian Basin high schools will play Peace area basketball games tonight. Seminole, Crane, Fort Davis and Kaan are still involved in post-season play. Seminole, 24-6, will face Amarillo River Road at 7:30 at Lubbock Coronado High School's gymnasium in a class 3A game. Crane, 22-6, will take on Vernon at 8 at Scurry County Coliseum in Snyder in another 3 outing. Kaan, 15-9, will clash with Fort Hancock at 8 o'clock in Pecos in class A competiton. Fort Davis, 25-3, will face Sands-Ackerly, 24-7, at 7:30 in Wink in another class A game. District 2-4A champion Lamesa, 27- 4, will play, 30-1 Mansfield tonight in Abilene’s Moody Coliseum. ALPINE — Sul Ross State University ended its men's basketball season Saturday night with a 91-78 victory over Tarleton State University. The Lobos finished 12-20 for the season and 3-3 in the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The Sul Ross women, 15-6 and 4-2, beat Tarleton State 64-51. Boxing Charles ‘‘Tuffy’’ Hostetter of Odessa will take an unbeaten Holley Victor in a heavyweight bout next Tuesday in London, England. Hostetter, 16-2 in his professional career, will be making his second rofessional appearace in Great ritain. On Feb. 20, 1985 in England, Hostetter defeated heavyweight Gypsy Carmen. Hostetter will fight Victor on a British Kingdom title card. Gary Coetzee and Frank Bruno will headline the card. Softball Members of the Odessa Women's Amateur Softball Association will sao an organizational meeting at 7:30 tonight at the Slater Community Building, 1001 W. 38th St. SAN ANGELO — The Early Bird slow pitch tourney for class B and C teams will be staged March 14-16 at Goodfellow Air Force Base. The fee of $80 and one blue-dot softball must be paid by 4:30 p.m. on March 11. Team trophies will be awarded for first through third places, while individuals on the first- and second-place teams will earn awards as well.
