Condemned Man's Mother QuizzesAUSTIN (A3)—The mother of the condemned child stayer. Jimmy Shaver, asked 11 questions at a Pardon board hearing heie today.A member of the board indicated afterwards he is not satisfied with one of the state’s answers.Shaver, a former airman at San Antonio, was convicted and Sentenced to death for the slaying of 3-year-old Cheie Jo Horton. The little girl was attacked and killed in a gravel pit near San Antonio in July of llJ54.Shaver’s mother is Mi s. E. E. McGhee of El Paso, who went to Austin for today’s new appeal to save him from the electric chair. Shaver was granted his thud stay of execution last week, moving tire death date to March 7.One of Mrs. McGhee’s questions was: “Why did James Holder. the boy who saw two men chive off with Jimmy, and who talked to Mr. Gonzales, strangely disappear?”The San Antonio district attorney, Hubert Giecn Jr., told the board that Holder was a witness who nevet appealed. He said Holder's absence was used b% Shavei’s first attorney, M. C. Gonzales, to gain a delay in the original trial of the case.A buaid member, Pat Bullock, said he wanted to know whether an attempt was made to find Holder. The district attorney said his office would check into the matter and ieport back. Holder’s last known address was on West HaicLmg boulevard in San Antonio.The Pardon board also is studying a statement by Donald Summers that he. not Shaver, .killed the child’.
