asIdBoy’s Alertness Gains Citizenship for FatherThe quick wit of a 10-year-old boy dissuaded the Dauphin County court on Tuesday from refusing citizenship to his father.Ferdinando Materazzi, employed in the cocoa department of the Hershey Chocolate Company, of Swatara Station, the father, was being examined for naturalization by Judge Fox. Although he has lived in the United States fifteen years, he speaks little English and was unable to tell the court what is done at Washington and at the State Capitol in Harrisburg, dr to answer other questions on civic matters,Standing at the side of the would-be citizen was his 10-year-old son, Albert. To him Judge Fox turned with the query:“What is the favorite song in your home?”“The Star-Spangled Banner,” was the instant reply.“What flag do you have in your home?” asked the court.“Two, the American and Italian flags,” was the answer.“How do you place those two flags?” Judge Fox questioned.“We always keep the American flag on top,” came back the ready reply.“We will admit this man to citizenship,” ordered Judge Fox. “His intelligent family should not be made to suffer for his unfortunate inability to learn our language.”
