At the m|W.ht of some of tho friends of theKev. Mr. Caktkr, wc transfer, from the Index, the following documents to our columns. Mr. C. was Well known, to many of the readers of the llanner, and we have no doubt a helping hand w ill be extended to him:—ICev. Jesse tl. lt;nrlcr.Thar Itro/her ,/. A. Cor/burn.—I am here; and stripped of every thing I have, except one sliirt and one pair of pants; shivering on the shore, but mercifully saved from the Haines. The steamboat Georgia, which I was on with all I bad, took tire as she came up to the wharf at New Orleans and consumed every thing on board, 1 had three negroes to perish in the flames. When the alnnn of fire was given, I was getting up, and I gathered up j what children were in my room, j and wc collected all of us togeth- , crand tried to escape at the usual pass' way, hut Could not. I then went to the f stern and threw them all down on the low- , cr dei k, jumped don n myself and ran out on a tight rope, Some plunks were shoved from the wharf and I went hack and brought out my wife, nurse, and all my children, and may (!•! be )nai*d; but O what Hufi'ering! Only one of our family that w as saved, got hurt; my wife, when I threw her down, fell on a large ox below, and was gored, but I hope not mortally. The scene of suffering I cannot describe, word- would fail me if I tried. There were some forty or fifty perished. We lost our ( cook and two fine boys in the flames. W c have mile what we have on. For a man to sec hi.-, family without bread, clothes, bat-, bonnets, or shoes, standing on the cold mud shivering with cold is bad; but) I rejoiced and praised God that we were i even spared and escaped with our lives. V e have 110 bed nor blanket, nothing but what we have on. I saved all my cash what lit- . tie 1 bad. I have found one mule on shore, badly burned. I have beard from my gray marc. As soon as she swam to shore, a cab driver stole her and put out, and I ■ have not got her yet. I lost four thousand | dollars b\ the lire. I have, not a hook on earth, f seldom beg, hut I will say to my | friends, I am in need of every thing; surli as 1 gave away in Georgia, would be valuable to me now, but I ought not to complain. Do pray forme, that I may be resigned to the will of God in all things. ' .IKSSH M.
