Robert A. “Bob” Dietz, 82, Hays, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Hays Medical Center. He was born Nov. 11, 1930, in Russell to Solo mon and Wilhelmina “Minnie” (Dietz) Dietz. He gradu ated from Otis Rural High School. After service, he at tended and graduated from Nashville Auto-Diesel College, Nash ville, Tenn., in Auto-Diesel Repair and Welding. He married Melba Strecker on Oct. 25, 1964, in Galatia. He later married Dolores D. Zimmerman on March 17, 1979, in La Crosse. He was employed at St. Mary of the Plains College, Dodge City, until retirement. He then continued to farm for eight years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He had a pilot's license and enjoyed to fly and do woodworking. Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, John Dietz and wife, Lisa, Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Ruth Bortz, Grand Island, Neb., and Doro thy Johnson, Sterling; two brothers, Emil Dietz and wife, Theresa, Otis, and Walter Dietz and wife, Margaret, Wichita; two step-sons, Ronald Herrman and wife, Nancy, Hays, and Stephen Herrman and wife, Vicki, Emporia; four grandchildren, Jacob Dietz, Katherine Dietz, Sarah Dietz and David Dietz; five step-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Martin Dietz; and a brother-in-law, Richard Bortz Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Galatia; burial in Fairview Cemetery, Galatia. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. ‘Tuesday with family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Nicholson- Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington.
