Marion Youths Involved InWild Chase in Stolen CarTwo 14-year-old rural Marion boys were turned over to Linn county juvenile authorities Saturday afternoon after being involved in a wild chase in northeast Iowa Friday night.The boys, John Walden, son of John B. Walden, RR 2 Marion, and James Moore, son of Arthur Moore, RR 2, are accused of stealing a new car belonging to their Linn-Mat* high school principal, Don Parkin.According to authorities, the boys took the car about 10:30 p. m. from the Linn-Mar parking lot and headed for Minnesota. A dance, held following a basketball game, was in progress at the time.The 1960 model station wagon was driven by the boys north on highway 150, where they were spotted by a highway patrol man, who followed the youths to a filling station near Maynard.He pulled up along side the vehicle, but the boys drove off with the patrolman in pursuit. The boys drove along the winding 8-mile stretch of road between Maynard and Fayette at speeds of 80 and 90 miles an hour.The diiver lost control after negotiating an S” curve, smashed into a telephone pole and rolled down an embankment, demolishing the vehicle. The crash impact knocked Moore's shoes off. Neither was seriously injured.The two ran into a corn field In below zero weather. The patrolman tracked them a short time, but lost the trail. By this time they were hunting authorities in an effort to give up. They were taken to the county jail in West Union.
