Mr. Claude Dufit, a former well known and highly respected citizen of this county, departed this life at his home in Waterloo on Monday last, and his remains reached here yesterday for burial. Mr. Dufit was born Sept. 7, 1815, at Breure les-Favernig, near Vesoul- Nante- Laone, France. He emi grated from France to this country in 1833, and came to Dubuque in 1840, settling on a farm in Center Township, where he con tinued to reside until 1872, a period of 30 years. In 1870 he moved to Waterloo, Iowa. During the whole of his long life, here he was generally respected as an upright citizen, a man of strict integrity, and of quiet, un ostentatious life, and his death will be generally mourned in this wide circle of friends in this county. He leaves two sons, Joseph and John Baptiste. Joseph resides in West Dubuque, and John re sides in the west. Two daughters are also left to mourn his demise—Mrs. David Chevalier who resides in Waterloo, and the other lives near Independence. The funeral will take place today from the residence of his son Joseph in West Du buque at two o'clock run. The remains will be buried in the Third street cemetery. Justice Hoerner rendered his decision, yesterday, in the case against Maurice Flynn, discharging the prisoner. It was a narrow escape for the young man.
