By NEIL STEVENS The Canadian Press TORONTO — Pilot Mound product Delaney Collins, Dana Antal, Kelly Bechard and Tammy Lee Shewchuk will be the new faces in Canada’s lineup for the 2000 women’s world hockey tournament, April 3-9, in Mississauga, Ont. The four rookies join 16 returnees from last year’s world championship team. Canada is 25-0 in tournament his tory, a big clue as to how hard it is in this country to make the national women’s team. “The young players coming up have grown up through the under-22 pro gram,” coach Mel Davidson said in announcing her roster Monday. “Some were star players in the 1995 Canada Winter Games and they’ve slowly been on the rise. “Now it’s their chance to shine.” Collins, Antal, of Esterhazy, Sask., and Bechard, of Sedley, Sask., play club hockey for Oval X-Treme in Calgary. Shevchuk, who is from Saint-Laurent, Que., plays at Harvard University with returning forward Jen Botterill of Winnipeg. Four from last year’s gold-medal team won't be back: France St-Louis and Mai-Lan Le retired; and Amanda Benoit and Fiona Smith didn’t make the final cut. Players such as Therese Brisson, Geraldine Heaney, Cassie Campbell, Nancy Drolet, Lori Dupuis, Danielle Goyette, Caroline Ouellette, Jayna Hefford, Vicky Sunohara and Hayley Wickenheiser continue to form the team’s backbone. Add goaltenders Sami Joe Small and Kim St-Pierre and it’s a formidable ros ter. Good enough, Davidson believes, to win a sixth straight world title. Collins played for the Notre Dame Sask, Hounds in high school and was a member of the national women’s under. 22 team that won the 1998 Christmas Cup. She also won a CIAU championship in 1998 with Concordia University.
