During JuneAHS Band Invited To Oregon FestivalTwo honor bands from outside communities have been invited to participate in the Rose Festival Grand Floral Parade Saturday, June 11, according to Ben Gillaspie, chairman erf the visiting band and marching unit subcommittee of the Grand Floral Parade committee at Portland, Ore. This year's Festival is scheduled June 3 to 12.They are the bands from Atchison High school, Atchison, Has., and Weiser High school, Weiser, Ida.The Atchison band is directed by Glenn L. Trent and numbers 75 pieces. There will probably be 100 in the party, including the band members, who plan to spend a full week in Oregon seeing the coast, Mt. Hood and othersights as well as taking part in ! Rose Festival events.Trent said today: “The marching band certainly plans to make the trip if the money is available. Plans for a fund raising drive will be announced in the near future. This is definitely a big honor we don't want to miss if it can be made possible.Jack Fields is director of the 85-piece Weiser band. Both the Weiser and Atchison bands have made many public appearances and won acclaim for the smart- | ness and quality of their performances. IGillaspie said the two bands I had been selected from a total . of 42 which have inquired about | participation in the 1966 Grand Floral Parade.
