Mrs. Weaver was called to French Lick, Ind., on account of her brother’s illness. There were 95 at Sunday school the 25th. Five adults heard the night sermon. The DeReign Missionary Society meets this afternoon with Mrs. S. A. Barton. Mr. and Mrs. Joe L. Scherer and son, Cyril, had business in Sikeston Monday. M. E. Montgomery and O. L. Spen cer were in St. Louis on busines last Thursday. T. M. Hudson of Grandin spent Sat urday night and Sunday morning with C. H. Frobase. J. Sherwood Smith and Gene Har ris had business in St. Louis Wednes day and Thursday. A cold wind chilled the air Sunday night and the next morning ther mometers were down to 15 above. E. M. Moore is back in Benton, hav ing arrived from Charleston, where he had been working for several months, Sunday. A school bus full of Benton pupils went to Oran Monday afternoon to a matinee, “Little Women,” at the Ma jestic theatre. Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Poe and chil dren returned from Linton, Ind., where they were called on account of the illness of his father. Andrew Buhs returned Saturday from the St. Francis hospital, Cape Girardeau, where he had been op erated on for appendicitis. The sale of Mrs. Andy Calbert southwest of town last Saturday was well attended. Next Saturday there will be one at Kelso by Simon West rich. W. C. Porter has taken on the agen cy for DeLuxe ice cream, a St. Louis product. A fine new electric sign was installed Friday informing the pool of this fact. Mrs. Berth Bane of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Theon Grojean of New Ham burg were dinner guests Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe L. Scherer home. These colder days call for more heat. Be careful in your homes about the stoves, furnaces and flues. The winter is pretty well over. Let’s not have a fire. Tonight the Christian board of edu cation will meet at the home of Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Barton after the reg ular weekly prayer meeting which will also be held at the Barton home. Mr. and Mrs. Felix Scherer and family, Miss Coletta and Lorena, Ad am LeGrand, John Zeigler, Elbert Mc Bride and Carl Hebernstreit were Sun day night visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hebenstreit. W. C. Porter spent Saturday and Sunday at Cypress, Ills., visiting his sisters, Mrs. John Mathes and Mrs. Adam Corzine. Mrs. Corzine and Robert Mathes returned with him to visit relatives at Morley and Benton. Rev. W. C. Ellzey addressed the young people of St. Louis and St. Louis county at the union meeting Thursday night. Mrs. Fitzey and Jane Eleanor went with the preach er. While in the city they were guests at the Rev. J. C. Montgomery home. Mr. and Mrs. Alden Pinney, Mrs. Meda Bledsoe, Misses Eleanor Harris and Leslie May Allen went to East Prairie Friday night to hear Miss Alyce Mullins, conference young peo ple’s leader, speak at the Methodist church. The Wednesday Club met last week with Mrs. A. P. Haw in a Valentine party. Games of various nature were played. Mary Louise Montgom ery and Martha Haw are dressed in Valentine costumes. The club meets next week with Mrs. Addie L. Harris. Warner Missionary Society met with Miss Edith Elmore Monday eve ning. At the conclusion of the bus iness meeting and program a miscel laneous shower was tendered Miss Clara Long by the members of the society. Miss Long resigned as an officer of the society as she is soon to become the bride of Leeds Butler and will be at home in Hayti.
