City Marshal Hobbs rounded up a bunch of negro crap shooters up in the colored section of town last Monday just about the dinner hour. There were twelve in the covey, but the Mayor thinned them down to seven at the evening session of the Mayor’s court, giving each of the convicted ones at fine of $20 or 40 days on the street. The convicted ones were Robert Broome, George Tharpe, Jesse Baker, Lewis Webb, Emory Furlow, Jim Williams and Lon Martin. All of these found white friends to pay them out, ex cept Jesse Baker, known as “Snow ball.” He has joined the street gang. The acquitted ones were Geo. Washington, Lewis Urquhart, Terry lee Brannon, Herschel Johnson and Ulysses Russell. A large crowd of spectators were present to witness the trial of the culprits. These stiff fines will probably put a crimp in the crap shooting pastime for a season.
