Rural property owner given eDirectors of the Placer County Water Agency agreed on Feb. 8 to grant an extensionuntil April 15 to a group of rural property owners seeking raw water for irrigation purposes from the Lower Banvard Canal in Newcastle.From 1997 to 2000, PCWA completed $600,000 worth of improvements on the canal, increasing its water-carrying capacity and allowing customers on a waiting list to apply for service. The agency has granted two extensions over the past few years while the group planned the private system improvements neededto receive the water.Spokesman Edward Seibelsaid this week the 11 property owners are now moving forward with their water system and expect to meet the new timetable.As part of the approval, the Board of Directors authorized each applicant to a one-half miners’ inch service and said the limits could be reviewed following completion of the American River Pump Station, which is expected to be inoperation by Spring 2005.In other business, directors: Voiced support for Assembly Bill 66, “Adopt-A-Riverway,” by 4th District Assemblyman Tim Leslie, which will be heard by the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee on Feb. 25. The bill would encourage Californians to take a more active role at the local level in keeping their waterways clean.
