Laura J. Florian enjoys many activitiesHOWLAND—Laura Jean Florian, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Florian, is a senior at Howland.Some of her school activities include marching band, concert band, pep band, French Gub, cross country, track and yearbook.She is into Girl Scouting and Explorers’ Club.She also enjoys crafts, camping, swimming, going to football and basketball games and cheering for her favorite team.I-aura has played softball in the Howland Athletic Club for five years.She is in the symphonic band and has been in marching band and pep band for four years playing the flute.“Band has been the best experience of my life and one that I will never forget,” says Laura.She especially enjoyed the trip to Washington DC. when the Howland band was invited to march in the Cherry Blossom Festival.She has played the flute since fourth grade and has participated in many competitions.Laura likes sports, having participated in track for three years; the first two years running distance and last year trying the shot put. She really enjoyed running distance and so in her sophomore year, she joined cross country. She lettered for two years in crass country.She has been in Girl Scouting for ten years and fe feels that it has really helped her through life’s situations.She earned the second highest award in Girl Scouting in April of 1983 To win the award, her troop held a Bike-aThon for the Children’s Rehabilitation Center.In April of 1984, she received the highest award in Girl Scouting, which is equal to the Boy Scouts Eagle Award, The Gold Award. For her troop project, the girls held a I-atch Key Program for three weekends Mrs. Dorothy Steinbeck is her Scout leader.In her junior year, Laura was recommended to the Fisher Body l-ordstown Explorer’s Gub. She goes there one day a month and does basic office work. She is able to work on the computers and other office machines. Her supervisor is Gloria Baker.Laura feels that her experiences in both scouting and the Explorer’s Gub has helped shape her ideas for her future. She plans to attend Youngstown State University in the fall for a two-year program in the Accounting Technology Field.LAURA J. FLORIAN
