CHICAGO EXAMINEE, SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 1916hall : galley sacrec lifeles lover.CROWNED with the same extraordinary success and* marked by the same enthusiasm and admiration as characterized its season in New York, Serge de DiaghilefTs Ballet Russe Is drawing large audiences of fashion and artistic distinction to the Auditorium. The novelty of the ballets, the weird and bewildering methods of production, the new school of expresslonistic dancing and the /wonderful artistic attainment of every individual member of the company marks the organization as the most remarkable in ensemble perfection ever seen here.Comprising eighty pieces, the orchestra was recruited at the Metropolitan Opera House by Nahan Franko, the violin virtuoso being Frederic Frankin, a pupil of the master, Ysaye.Chicago has bestowed its heartiest applause upon the individual ballets, all of which gave splendid opportunities for their work. The arrangement for the coming week will again present these premieres in roles that have already brought their success in Paris and in America, but will show their art in three new ballets which will be given this week. The graceful and dainty Lopokowa, the sensuous and fascinating brunette Revalles, Bolm, Massin and Gavriloff wilb all be seen in new dances. . ‘ ^The management will present three new ballets next week, “Thamar,” “Cleopatre” and “Specter of the Rose.” Two matinees will be added and these on Tuesday and Thursday, the evening performances being omitted on these days. Saturday there will be the usual two appearances at the matinee and at night the farewell. It is worthy of note that De Diag-hileff is giving his constant and personal direction to the Chicago presentations, devoting the days to rehearsal^ and watching with extreme vigilance each*performance, matinee and night. The premieres work harder than those of the Ballet Russe. for they are constantly at the theater, where the skillful and resourceful Adolf Bolm produces and while the veteran of the ballets of Europe, Singnor Enrico Ceechetti, instructs and finishes the art of the principals and the ensemble. The members of the corps de ballet are directed on tour with all the discipline and rigor of the imperial schools of Russia. There is time for recreation and exercise, but nothing more for the classes of instruction are maintained on tour. And with these are the constant rehearsals.Casts and synopses of the new ballets for next week follow:“Thamar” is a choreographic dramain one act, by L. Bakst.
