Obituary.Hugh Armstrong was born July 19. 1837. in Jackson township, Darke county, 0., and died on his farm at Palestine, 0., of lung pneumonia, February 10, 1913. He was the son of Judge John Armstrong, a native of Pennsylvania, and Jane Elston, a native of New Jersey. The children of this marriage were nine in number. Hugh being the fifth. Hugh Armstrong was first married tc Elizabeth J. Vanshaik October 28. 1868. To this union were born three daughters and one son —Ida J. McCartney. Eva C. Wilcox, Retta A. Wilt, and George Armstrong. His first wife died December 1, 1879, of lung pneumonia. Hugh Armstrong was married to Carlesta McCabe February 4, 1892. To this union one child was born. Meredith Cook.Hugh Armstrong was a lover of his country and in the spring of 1864 he enlisted in the Union army as a member of *he 152d 0. V. I. Having served his full time he was honorably discharged and returned to his boyhood home. He was a lover of law and order and to this end became an active member of tin German and Washington Township Protective Association. He was treasurer of the association at the time of his death. Hugh Armstrong was a well known breeder of Short Horn cattle. He secured his foundation stock from the famous Blue Grass regions of Kentucky. He sought to improve them by securing the best Scotch cattle obtainable. There were few who were better judges of beef cattle than he and his community owes much to him for the improvement in its beef cattle.Hugh Armstrong was a loving father, an indulgent husband, and a generous friend to all those who were in need of his help and assistance. He leaves to mourn their loss, a wife, four daughters, a son, five grandchildren, a brother and three sicters. His body was laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery at Palestine, 0., Wednesday. February 12, 1913. Rev.
