M. Balch during the last few years of bis residence here, but was the property of his daughter, Mrs Enoch Cross.When Mr. Balch moved to Eaton Rapids he took the dog, and early last year someone hit her with a pitchfork, iudieting a wound from which she never recovered, and which medical aid proved unable to reach. Duiing the holidays Mrs. Cross brought the dog here and since that time it has had daily treatment but without improvement, and after much consultatiou the dog was chloroformed Wednesday night.Cleopatra was a perfect specimen of a well-bred St. Bernard, weighing 165 pouods and measuring six feet from the tip of her nose to the end of her tail.With a keen intelect, an exceedingly kind and affectiouate disposition, she was admired by all who saw her.
