Fundraiser for visual arts education is next week By Lisa Boykin Batts Times Life Editor Next week’s fundraiser at the Wilson Arts Center will feature lots of little paintings — around 150 miniature masterpieces, ~~ The event, which will ben efit the visual arts education program at the Arts Council of Wilson, is a party with food and music, said gallery director, Amy Hughes. Here’s how it works. Those who have purchased a $40 ticket will draw a number from a hat when they arrive next Thursday night, Feb. 26, at the Wilson Arts Center. In the gallery, around 150 8X8- inch paintings by local artists will be displayed and numbered. Guests will find the correspond ing number to see which paint ing they take home. Hughes said guests will be asked to leave their painting on the wall for the first hour so ev eryone can view them. After that, ticket-holders will be able to take their painting home or trade it with someone else. “It’s a fun night for a good cause,” Hughes said. Around 100 artists donated paintings for this fundraiser. Some did one painting; others did as many as five. “Isn't it amazing?” she said. “Artists have been so generous with their talent.” There are oil paintings, water colors and acrylics. The paint ings include still lifes, landscapes and collages. “There are some beautiful little paintings,” Hughes said. Five of the paintings have been framed and will be put in a silent auction. “Wait until you see those!” Hughes said. Artists include members of the Wilson Active Artists, former Studio One artists and students from Barton College and the Vi sual Arts Academy. The Visual Arts Academy pro vides art instruction to middle school and high school students. Hughes said the Arts Council would like to offer classes for adults as well. As of Wednesday morning, tickets were still available for this event. Hughes is hoping a lot of money is raised and everyone leaves happy with their painting.
