A major search began over the weekend for a light plane with three men aboard that went missing in the rugged North Thompson district shortly after midnight Saturday. Pacific Rescue Centre in Victoria said the pilot reported engine failure 25 miles northeast of Kamloops at 12:05 a.m. A low cloud ceiling blanketed the area at the time. The plane, a twin engine Piper PA 30 with red and white markings, was on a flight from Prince George to Kamloops. Those aboard were iden tified as pilot William Hines and passengers Bud Shaw and Dennis Knudtson, all of Kamloops. A rescue spokesman said the plane was not equipped with an emergency location transmitter
