Honored At Kitchen Shower A kitchen shower was held Saturday, February 14, for Gene vieve Christen, Cedar Falls, in the home of Mrs. Jim Frieden, with Helen Christen, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Mrs. Thomas Pollock as hostesses. Present besides the honored guests were Morris, John Chris ten, Will Christen, George Nic kels, Elmer Frieden, Fred Buti kofer, Thomas Foxwell, Rose Christen, Celia Thoman, Sam Dennler, Harold Strong, Andrew Braker, Rae Gibbs, Carroll Klingman, Ben Butikofer, Ernest Christen, Ida Christen, Ellen Mason, Gordon Pollock, Harry Butikofer, Albert DL.Dennler, Lester Wenger, Milo Frieden, Karen and Mari Ellen, Leo Jo hansen and Preston, Kermit Peterson, Rhonda Roger, Cas talia, and Raymond Weston, La mont, Misses Gladys Hanson and Clara Muehlethaler. Sending gifts but unable to at tend were Mrs. Roscoe Larson, Mrs. Paul Smith, Mrs. Lawrence Butikofer, and Lucy Christen. Miss Christen will become the bride of Timothy C. Van Dorn, Cedar Falls, on Saturday, Feb. 28, in Waterloo. Following are the Community Club’s 1970 committees and an explanation of their purpose. The person listed first is chairman of that committee. Membership - To conduct a membership drive in December for the coming year and actively solicit new members ,during the year. — LaVerne Osterhus, Dr. H. H. Wolf, Carlton Krueger, Walt Kohler, Cliff Wilson. Meeting Contacting - To notify members of the time and place of each meeting. — Charles Cap per, James Hermen, Elgin Coop., Eugene Schori, Kenton Krueger. Roads and Signs - To promote improvement and maintenance of local roads and streets. To erect and maintain road signs. — John Tillotson, Otis Torkelson, George Falk, Henry McMillan, Charles Gehring. Civic - To provide for special religious services. Work with other community organizations for the improvement of our community. Welcome new fami lies to our community. — Rev. Brake, Rev. Dawes, Rev. Meth. Business Promotions- To plan and initiate a minimum of six special business promotions. Ed Klingman, Lorence Mueh lethaler, Harold Halverson, Wm. Moore, Eugene O'Donnell. Tourism - To help develop local points of interest to inn crease tourism in our area, . Laurence Knudtson, Lyle Light, Virgil Miles, . Industrial Community Dee velopment - To endeavor to at tract and promote industry and additional business establish ments in our community. Housing and Real Estate To compile a list of available hous ing and aid prospective Elgin citizens in procuring same. Leo Lehman, George Woodard, Robert Hanson, C. B. Schori. Finance and By Laws Review To review financial status of the club and budget funds to various committees. To evaluate and present updated set of By Laws for consideration by the membership before the end of this year. 1970 Officers - Ivan Torkelson, President; LaVerne Osterhus, Vice President; Larry Ormston, Secretary-Treas.
